Heavy-duty trucks and construction equipment can experience extreme operating conditions that ultimately affect performance and longevity. With fluid analysis, the failure mechanism can be predicted, and routine maintenance can take place before major equipment failures occur.



Water Contamination

Water does not interact well with oil and can cause harm to equipment parts. Exposure to water can cause the oil to oxidize and break down, causing a build-up of acids in the oil reservoir. This ultimately can cause corrosion and wear on internal machine equipment as it is continuously being used. 


Dirt Ingression and Deposit Formation

With exposure to dusty work environments, dirt and various particulates can become suspended in the lubricating oil over time. This causes inadequate lubrication between interacting surfaces and destructive pitting and wear can occur. Fluid analysis paired with adequate filtration can help detect and maintain oil cleanliness.


Temperature Extremes

Hot and cold temperatures can cause the oil to behave ineffectively and ultimately degrade at a faster rate.  In cold environments, the oil can sludge up and shear, causing start-up failures and poor equipment lubrication. In hot environments, the oil thins out and cannot provide proper lubrication between surfaces, which causes wear and the equipment to overheat. With advances in oil technology, synthetic lubricants can better withstand changes in temperature.
